Now a days, Technological advancement and innovations are contributing revolutionary changes in business and everyday life of the society. They have deeply changed the way people do business, acquire knowledge and information, access to a variety of services, communicate, share views and interact. However, the lives of people have hardly been touched by these innovations and technologies particularly in developing countries like Ethiopia. It is thus, Dilla University as one of applied university is anticipated to conduct research and innovation activities that should be practical in nature and translated to address practical solution that the society are facing today. On the basis of this, the proposed theme is much trampled but holistic and inclusive; that can be cascaded into other large sub themes that enables to provide full package of innovative and technology to improve the life of society and contribute to the national development.
Aim
The main aim of the theme is to bring holistic economic and technological advancement for the improvements of the life of the society through providing new technology, ideas and innovations that support the national development agenda.
Sub-themes:
Sub-theme 1: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND DATA COMPUTATION
The major Research areas of this sub theme are; networking and data communication, Computer vision and image processing, Machine Learning and Data analytics, Fraud detection and security, Application software and Database Development
Sub-theme 2: MACHINE DESIGN AND MANFACTURING TECHNOLOGY
Research projects which mainly focus on Design and Industrial Management, Machine Design and optimization, manufacturing Technology and material science that will enhance production and quality of goods and services
Sub-theme 3: GREEN ENERGY DEVELOPMENT
In order to reduce the impacts Climate change, exploitation of non-renewable resources and to balance the ever-increasing energy demands of the population; green and pollution free energy development is becoming as the best alternatives. Hence, Hydropower, Bio energy, Solar, Wind and geothermal energy development are the major focuses of this sub theme.
Sub-theme 4: WATER RESOURCES& HYDRO STRUCTURES
Water Resources Assessment, Modeling, Allocation and optimization, Development Design and development of Hydro structures water resources, and water supply and sanitation will be addressed in this sub theme.
Sub-theme 5: MATERIAL RECYCLING AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
The major focus area of this sub theme mainly focuses on solid and hazard waste management, Water and waste water treatment and pollution control.
Sub-theme 6: CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT
Urban planning and management focusing on Urban beautification and landscaping, Urbanization and pre urban area, Urbanization and peri-urban area, Cadastral surveying and geodesy; Housing and Infrastructure mainly on road and transportation, Infrastructure and facility management, construction Engineering related to Construction Material and Methods, Ground improvement method, Structural and geotechnical support system, Construction project planning and controlling are the major area of this sub them.
Sub-theme 7: CHEMICAL AND FOOD PROCESSING
Food Processing and Packaging mainly focusing on milk, fruit, Enset processing and packaging; and chemical engineering will be addressed here in this sub themes
