General Description
In recent years, there is demographic change in the age and diversity of the population, shift in epidemiology of disease from acute to chronic illness, and explosion in technologies that have public health implication. In line with this, the broader contexts of public health and medical practices have been undergoing a radical transformation. To sustain and advance in this health transformation, evidence based decisions relying on the real contexts of the local and global situations are needed. The main sources for the evidences for health decision making is quality research outputs. To this end, sub themes listed here under will address the array of issues that needs to be addressed with due emphasis.
Aim
The aim of this theme is to promote locally relevant and internationally acceptable problem solving research output. In addition, it values quality and ethical standards of health researches done in our university.
Sub-Themes
Sub-theme 1: Public Health, health behavior, Environmental health and Occupational health
Researches focusing on issues of public health importance, trends and pattern of disease distribution, multiple aspects of heath behavior and, individual and institutional level health care delivery related issues will be entertained here.
Research projects focusing on Environmental determinants health like water, hygiene, sanitation. In addition, papers focusing on occupational hazards both at individual and institutional level will be addressed here.
Sub-theme 2: Communicable and Non-communicable diseases
Communicable and non-communicable diseases are the major public health challenges that made developing country live with double burden of diseases. Taking this into consideration, research projects on communicable and non-communicable diseases of significant public health concern that have policy implication will be expected under this subtheme.
⦁ Research projects planning to address mental health, addiction, Psychological health, neurologic problems and psychiatry related issues will be expected.
Sub-theme 3: Maternal, Child and Adolescents Health problems
Under this subtheme researches on major public health importance problems on maternal health, child health and adolescent reproductive health will be expected.
Sub-theme 4: Human Nutrition and Food safety
⦁ Though there are remarkable achievements with respect to nutritional health, there is still a significant challenge of alleviating nutritional problems in Ethiopia. To contribute for the management of these problems, research projects with valuable contribution for the alleviation of nutritional problems and particularly on under five and maternal nutritional problems will be expected under this subtheme. In addition research projects focusing on food safety and nutrition and food security will be given priority in this subtheme.
Sub-theme 5: Peri-operative medicine, trauma, emergency medicine and Critical Care
⦁ To contribute for the establishment of evidence based strong and effective public health and medical emergency management system research projects focusing on public health and medical emergencies such as trauma, surgical procedures, outbreaks and other emergencies of public health concerns will be entertained
⦁ Research projects focusing on issues related to operative care will be entertained under this theme.
Sub-theme 6: Innovative medicine, Health care delivery and digitalization
Research projects focusing on developing, testing and redesigning of methods, theories, procedures in any aspect of human health and health care system will expected. In addition, Research projects focusing on health data management, utilization and dissemination including HMIS, and other recording system of health information will be entertained
Sub-theme 7: Drug, pharmaceutical studies and Traditional Medicine
Under this subtheme research projects on antibiotic challenges, drug therapy problems, traditional medicine and other related issues will be expected.
